Save our oceans assembly
 |
On World Oceans Day (8 June), join in the global celebration of our oceans and encourage everyone to work together to protect them.
This is an opportunity to highlight the problem of plastic pollution that is harming creatures that live in the ocean, from coral reefs to turtles, whales and seabirds. Ask your pupils what their impact on the oceans is. Do they think their actions and behaviour has affected them?
Show pupils the Great Pacific Garbage Patch video (video runtime 1:31min) to see the impact of waste on the oceans.
You could watch the Litter Things Matter movie (video runtime 19:54 min), which explains all you need to know about plastic and its impact, to engage your pupils in the problems it creates.
Or run an interactive assembly and find out what plastics can be recycled locally using the 15 minutes to Save the Earth resource. It also includes the 2-minute tidy up game to help remind children about the right way to recycle at home.
Challenge your eco-team
Can they think of some inspiring ways to reduce, reuse and recycle plastics in school?
