 |
Following feedback from school colleagues, a decision has been agreed to put on hold the proposed changes to Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead training to allow time for a full review.
The current requirements as detailed by Ofsted in Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings are for DSL’s to complete safeguarding training every two years and their knowledge and skills should be refreshed at regular intervals, but at least annually.
Consequently for the 2019/2020 academic year, the training requirements for Designated Safeguarding Leads and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads will be:
New DSL’s must attend the following training:
- DSL New to Role
- SSCB Foundation Module 1: Multi Agency Safeguarding Children - Family Resilience and Family Safeguarding
- SSCB Foundation Module 2: Child Protection Conferences, Plans and Core Groups
Followed by:
- DSL Update Training – at least every 2 years training will include development of the leadership of safeguarding within your setting
- Attendance at termly DSL network events, where possible, to refresh knowledge and skills
The training will be available to book on the SSCB website – dates for the new academic year will be made available in June and July.
