Schools’ financial year-end closure of accounts - Deadlines and procedures
Section S of the School Finance Manual is now published on the Services for Schools Portal.
Schools’ accounts form part of the Local Authority’s accounts and therefore the accounting policies used by schools must be consistent with those which the LA is required to follow in order to comply with accounting standards and statutory requirements.
Section S details the year-end requirements that schools must follow in closing their accounts for the current financial year. In particular, schools must adhere to:
- the LA accruals policy as laid down in sub-section 2.3 & 2.4
- Year-end submission dates as laid down in Annexe 1 – Year-End Closing Timetable
To access the information schools will need to log-in to the Schools Portal and then select 'Resources' at the top of the page and search for 'Finance Manual.'
