Teachers’ pay grant funding for 2019/20
A message from the Children, Schools and Families Finance Team

On 25 April, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) published the teachers’ pay grant (TPG) allocations for individual schools for the financial year 2019/20. ESFA has asked that the information below is drawn to the attention of individual maintained schools (and special academies).

The allocations can be found on gov uk using the links below

The supporting information document on sets out the data used in the grant calculations.

ESFA has also updated the 2018/2019 financial year allocations for new schools, and for those that have added an additional year group between October 2017 and October 2018 (Please note that this only applies to schools which have opened in the last seven years).

Further information on the methodology for the TPG is available:

The rates per pupil for primary schools for 2019/20 have been updated to take account of the double counting of 4 year olds that was identified and communicated by the ESFA last autumn. All other rates are as published in October 2018. The October 2018 census has been used for 5 to 16 year olds in mainstream schools, the January 2019 census for 2 to 4 year olds in schools, and the pupil numbers as set out in the 2018 to 2019 academic year allocations for post-16 students. The LA must pass on the published allocations to individual mainstream schools, and will aim to include those allocations in schools’ April 2019 budget tabulations. Mainstream academies will be paid directly by the ESFA.

For special schools (including special academies) and pupil referral units, ESFA will fund Surrey using the place numbers in the published section 251 budget data for 2018/2019, and the published high needs place numbers for academies for 2018 to 2019. The basis of allocation to these schools may be varied locally . Surrey will consult special schools, special academies and pupil referral units shortly on the basis of allocation.
